David moved to
France from the UK through his work with an Anglo-French company where he
specialised in the Development of Human Resources for a number of years.
Since his retirement from full-time employment he has had the time to
offer his support and assistance to English speaking clients located
within the Cannes area.
David is a UK qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the experience
to provide professional counselling and therapy for those seeking help
with specific personal issues such as: anxiety, stress, panic attacks, low
self esteem, relationship difficulties, work problems or phobias. Some
people may also be seeking assistance in response to a more general sense
of uneasiness, perhaps an empty or depressed feeling, a sense of loss and
bereavement or general irritability; the origins of which may not be
clear.
David is a member of the UK National Council of Psychotherapists and has a
UK Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy and
qualifications in Integrative Psychotherapy, Ericksonian Hypnosis and
Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Counselling sessions usually last an hour and are conducted in a
comfortable, supportive and non-judgemental environment that provides the
time and space to reflect, unburden and resolve issues. By working
together through the issues and experiences its possible to gain new
insights to discover constructive and creative ways to move forward. The
counsellor's role is to provide the framework for that journey. An
integrative approach is adopted, which means that a single method is not
followed but a process is developed to meet the needs and preferences of
individual clients.
David accepts the principle of accountability and this is an essential
part of his working practice. As a qualified member of the UK National
Council of Psychotherapists (NCP) and of other professional bodies, He is
bound by strict codes of ethics and is required to be covered by
professional indemnity insurance.
David has also the combination of practical experience and the skills
required to assist those who seek help with work related issues or
personal counselling following loss of employment. The award of Chartered
Fellow by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development recognises
his considerable expertise of the assessment and development of people.
David is also qualified in the assessment and interpretation of
Occupational Personality Profiles and their use in the areas of personal
development and career planning.

Reasons for considering Counselling or Psychotherapy
People seek
counselling/psychotherapy for many different reasons, usually when they
are not happy with certain aspects of their lives or lack a sense of
well-being.
The decision to seek help may result from a need to address specific
problems like; anxiety, stress, panic attacks, low self esteem,
relationship difficulties, work problems or phobias. It may be in response
to a general sense of uneasiness, perhaps an empty or depressed feeling, a
sense of loss and bereavement, general irritability; the origins of which
may not be clear.
What is Counselling / Psychotherapy?
Counselling and Psychotherapy involves regular meetings at which issues
can be shared and their related feelings and emotions explored. The length
of time required will depend on the issues involved. It might be quite a
short period of a few weeks for specific issues or several months where
issues are long standing and complex.
Counselling
Just having someone to talk to can
be a great relief, but finding people with the time and inclination to
listen can be hard and they don’t have the expertise necessary to develop
the insight essential to help unravel the situation and to enable issues
to be resolved.
Counsellors are trained listeners; they do a lot more than just listen. A
good counsellor can help you to look at and understand the process by
which some people get caught up in their issues and then can’t find a way
to sort them out. Successful resolution of these issues can help us to
regain control of our lives and feel more able to make the right choices.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy often deals with
the problems covered by counselling as well as the more complex issues. A
psychotherapist will help you look more deeply at the situation and enable
you to consider some of the unconscious as well as the conscious issues
and is also more effective when working through more fundamental change
issues or where there are recurring problems. We are all affected by
experiences in our childhood, growing up and in our adult live. It is
often helpful to understand how these experiences influence our current
behaviour, emotions and relationships. Sometimes we repeat patterns of
behaviour that we don’t recognise nor understand.
Psychotherapy can help explain these patterns and creates an opportunity
to think about how they may be changed, it can be used to look at how to
expand our range of choices, explore our inner conflicts and develop our
personal growth and well-being.
Career Mentoring
Sometimes work is not as satisfying
as we would like, maybe we feel frustrated or dissatisfied. Perhaps there
are changes being made to our role or we experience difficulties with the
people with whom we work. Maybe difficult work relationships and dynamics
are getting in the way of the fulfilment of our potential or we are unsure
about our correct career path. With greater self-assurance we can develop
the confidence to make the right decisions. Career Mentoring can also
provide an opportunity to gain a better understanding of our occupational
psychological profile through psychometric testing to assist work
performance, career decisions and the development of potential.
By talking with a former Senior Human Resources / Outplacement
professional with specific experience in people development, outside of
your work setting and in confidence, you can find alternative ways of
managing these difficulties that will lead to a more fulfilling work
career.
